Paola Carucci was born in Rome on 19th February 1941 and graduated in  Political Sciences at “La Sapienza” University in Rome. She worked as state archivist in the  Central State Archives and managed the first State Archives in Ancona, then the one of Terni and finally the department for studies  and publications of the Archives General Department (Department for the  cultural heritage and activities). She taught archives management firstly at Milan University  and then at “La Sapienza” University in Rome. 
From March 1997 to October 2002, she worked as  superintendent for the Central State Archives.
Nowadays she is teaching for the Master in  Cultural Heritage of Siena University, Arezzo  section, and for the Master in Architecture of the third Rome University. 
She is the author of many essays on archives  management and archival legislation and of monographic volumes. She worked in  the editorial staff of the “Guida generale degli Archivi di Stato italiani”  (General guide to Italian State Archives) and she is now taking part to the re-established  editorial staff in order to publish an updated “Guida generale” (General  guide). She wrote also many essays on the history of contemporary  administration.
