For two hundred years, the Chamber of Commerce of Genoa has played a leading role in the representation and coordination of the Genoese business community. The Chamber of Commerce offers functions and services that mirror the historical evolution of Italian laws, economy and society. The Chamber of Commerce provides support in the fields of economical promotion, administrative services, and the study and regulation of the market.
In addition, we actively support the creation of structures for economic development.
In 2005, We celebrated the bicentenary of our foundation as the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts, Agriculture of Genoa (founded in 1805 under the decree law of the 17th of June, signed by   G.B. de Champany, Napoleon’s Minister of Internal Affairs). The programme of the bicentenary took place under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic.
The manifestations took place throughout 2005 and culminated on 17th, June, with the official celebration of the bicentenary in the Stock Exchange, in the presence of Minister Claudio Scajola. They concluded on 5th March, 2006 with the awarding of the centenary companies.
Historically, the Chamber of Commerce of Genoa contributed to the foundation and the development of the first industries in our country and in the creation of capital assets;  shipbuilding,   mechanics and in the steel industry. Before the foundation of the Port Authority (which included the Chamber’s participation in 1903), our institution took care of maritime problems, promoting steam-navigation and was actively involved in Ferdinando de Lesseps’ initiative for the opening of the Suez Canal. The Chamber also followed with interest all the new discoveries in the field of communication and promoted the building of important infrastructures, including the Genoa-Turin railway, opened in 1854; the Carrettiera Carlo Alberto, today Via Gramsci; and the bonded warehouse, which has been directly managed by the Chamber since 1877. Finally, after the war, the Chamber of Commerce contributed decisively to the promotion of a united Europe within the Genoese entrepreneurial class. We are proud to continue to look towards  the future.
