BENI CULTURALI E INDUSTRIALI DELLA LIGURIA: CONOSCENZA E VALORIZZAZIONE
Genoa, the 20th of October 2006
Palazzo Tursi

On the 20th of October 2006, the conference “Beni Culturali e Industriali della Liguria. Conoscenza e Valorizzazione” (Cultural and Industrial Assets in Liguria. Knowledge and Valorization), sponsored by the Ligurian Section of the Italian Association for the Industrial Archaeology (AIPAI Liguria) was held in Genoa.  This was the first Study Day organized in Liguria on the theme of industrial heritage – edited by Sara De Maestri (University of Genoa) and Alessandro Lombardo (Ansaldo Foundation).
The program was consisted of two parts; the first  analyzed the current situation of each field of industrial archaeology, both nationally and internationally; and the second part presented the application of local policies in various projects (some already carried out, some ‘in progress’ and others that are still at the planning stage); each case was correlated to an illustration of “good practices”.
The speakers included Eusebi Casanelles, chairman of the TICCIH, The International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage, Paul Smith, French Department for Culture and Communication and Giovanni Fontana, chairman of AIPAI.
The recovery process involves the participation of a wide range of individuals and organizations. For this reason, project planners such as 5+1 AA were asked to participate. However, equal importance was given to  the promoters of single operations (Porto Antico S.p.A., Area 24, Società per Cornigliano, Assedil, and so on), who underlined the economic aspect of sustainable re-use of materials.
The conference, held at the Palazzo Doria Tursi, was principally supported by the Region of Liguria, the Municipality of Genoa, the University of Genoa, Confindustria Genoa, Assedil and Società per Cornigliano.
Other supporters of this iniziative included: Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici della Liguria, Ansaldo Energia, Associazione detta “dei Barbi”, Ansaldo Foundation, Ordine degli Architetti, Ordine degli Ingegneri and San Paolo IMI.
